Welcome to the official website of the visionary author and photographer James Oroc.

This web-site is a window into my strange and wonderful world. I have dedicated most of my life in a search for new experiences and traveled to the various corners of the globe in search of the bizarre, the beautiful, and ultimately, the more mystical aspects of our planet and culture. In my writings and photography I attempt to document the unknown, write the unwritten, and capture the impossible image, using my art to soothe the same urge for creation within myself that Mystics believe drives the entirety of Existence. As I seek to fall in with that Cosmic Rhythm, I feel fortunate in knowing that my work can never really end and that a true love of Art can be a path to both happiness and realisation. For I believe that the magic of life lies in the joy of the richness of the journey, and in that spirit I present this collection of moments from my own magical journey.

Well, the real party was clearly in the back, and the negro musicians developed a [...]

Mardi Gras Indians

Mardi Gras Indians

The Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans, an elusive subject since they are essentially black secret-societies (tribes) that ‘mask’ three days a year  – Mardi Gras Day, Super-Sunday, and St. Josephs night – and wander along irregular routes through-out the poorer parts of town. These tribes are made up of generally lower-middle class African-Americans who [...]

High Times.

High Times.

2010 is starting with a bang with a three-page interview and book-excerpt in High Times, the original bible of the counter-culture itself! Pretty psychedelic seeing my face in tis pages, especially since this was the first time I allowed a photograph with an interview … I have realised I cant escape the 21st century [...]
